Das Märchen

Read this tale aloud, or read along with your little one. Sentences are short and the words are simple.

Once there was a fountain. By it was a stone. Inside was a lily.

A snake lived by it. A fisherman sat by it. His son was at the lily.

The lily said: come closer. The boy went closer. He was golden.

He was with the lily. The king came. He had three sons.

The third son was the boy. The king sent his sons to the lily. Two did not go.

The third went. The snake bit him. The snake was the snake.

The lily gave him a ring. He was angry. He went to the king.

The king had three daughters. The third was kind. The boy was kind.

They were married. And they lived happily ever after.
