Die zwölf Brüder

Read this tale aloud, or read along with your little one. Sentences are short and the words are simple.

Once a king had twelve sons. He said: if the next baby is a girl, the boys must die. The boys heard this.

They went into the woods. They made a house. They lived there.

Years passed. The queen had a baby girl. She grew up.

She did not know about the brothers. One day she went to the woods. She saw their house.

She found twelve little shirts. She took them home. The brothers came to the castle.

They said: we will die. The girl said: no. She planted twelve lilies.

The brothers watched. The lilies grew. They were white.

The brothers lived. The girl was happy. She lived with her family again.
