Der Eisenofen

Read this tale aloud, or read along with your little one. Sentences are short and the words are simple.

Once there was a princess. Her father said: marry or go. She said: no.

The father was angry. She was in the woods. She saw an iron stove.

Inside it was a voice. The voice said: let me out. He said: I am a prince.

A witch put me here. She said: I will free you. He said: come with me.

They walked. She was tired. He said: sleep by the stove.

She did. She came home. The king was happy.

She did not marry. She went back to the stove. She made a fire.

The witch was away. She let him out. They ran.

The witch came. She saw them. The prince said: I am free.

The witch fell. They were married. And they lived happily ever after.
