(The Goose Girl)
Read this tale aloud, or read along with your little one. Sentences are short and the words are simple.
Once a queen had a daughter. She gave her a horse and a kerchief. The kerchief had a drop of blood.
It had power. The girl was to marry a prince. She sent a maid with her.
The maid made her give the horse to her. The girl had to be the goose-girl. She had no kerchief.
The king came. He saw her. She combed her hair.
The king heard. He said: I will marry her. The maid said: I will marry him.
The king said: who had a kerchief. The girl showed it. The king knew.
The maid was punished. The girl married the prince. And they lived happily ever after.
