Strohhalm, Kohle und Bohne
(Straw, Coal, and Bean)
Read this tale aloud, or read along with your little one. Sentences are short and the words are simple.
Once a straw, a coal and a bean went to town. They came to a brook. The water was wide.
They could not jump across. The straw said: I will lay across. The coal said: I will walk across.
The bean said: I will jump across. The straw laid across. The coal walked across.
The coal jumped on the straw. The straw caught fire. The bean jumped in to help.
She was burned. So they all were lost. That is what happens when you are careless.
Stay home by the warm fire.
